At YSA, we believe that group lessons are a great way to learn skateboarding because they help kids build the interpersonal and spatial skills needed to feel confident and capable at a skatepark. We also know that private lessons have a crucial purpose in a skateboarder's journey.
To best set every student up for a successful experience, we have a policy that beginners start with at least one private lesson before joining a group in the following cases:
If our group lessons are already a few sessions into a season, so your child can build foundational skills with personalized attention before joining a group that is already learning new tricks.
If your child has specific learning needs, including neurodivergence, disabilities, or high anxiety.
A private lesson allows us to get to know your child and their unique learning style so we can ensure they're in the best group for their success.
